Stress, Depression, and Suicide Status in Community

Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the city ¡®d¡¯ residents' status of life stress, depression and
suicidal ideation.

Method: In this study, 1,100 residents living in city ¡®d¡¯ were included and data collection was conducted over two-weeks beginning June 30, 2014 using structured questionnaire. SPSS / WIN 20.0 program was used for descriptive statistics.

Results: 90.5% of the city ¡®d¡¯ residents have appealed that they are stressed in everyday life. 22.8% of participants responded that the main factor of stress is economic difficulties. 10.5% of participants responded to felt depressive mood, 73.0% out of these participants have showed no experience with the medical treatment. 32.3% of participants were at high risk for depression, 5.8% of the participants had felt suicidal impulse and the rate of suicidal attempt was 7.8%.

Conclusion: For the mental health promotion of local residents, the community should establish measures to reduce the stress considering the gender, age or lifestyle of the residents. The adoption of the intervention program is quite important to reduce depression and prevent future suicidal attempts
